I had a pulmonary appointment almost ten years ago. My pulmonologist showed me the painting “The Doctor” by Luke Fildes. He said he’s being pushed to spend more time gazing at computer screens more than actually seeing and listening to his patients. He was a good doctor.

Since then, I’ve become chronically ill. I often feel that a couple of my current doctors (I see many) don’t hear or attend to all that I’m speaking. They’re half in the screens and half paying attention to me mostly waiting for their turn to talk. They’ve become what my pulmonologist feared was happening to the profession—it’s not seeing and hearing its patients like it once did.

So, it’s been left to patients to speak and share with each other.

Play the song for you. Play the song for others.

Play the song.
