I love this: “I decided to truly love those deep, dark, emotional aspects of myself and start seeing them as a superpower.”!!🦸🏻‍♀️

Toxic positivity is everywhere but guess what we’re whole people with a wide range of emotions. By you expressing your, you’re doing the world a service by showing you can make beautiful songs/things from darker emotions.

It’s important to sit with those emotions & not run from them & your music can help us do that.

As someone living with ME, I have so many different emotional experiences dealing with it. I want art that expresses them all!!

Thank you for using your precious spoons to make these songs!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

I'm not always the most positive person, but I do enjoy interacting with friends and I have hobbies. I do often try to hide my depressive side and that bothers me. I also believe that you need to feel what you feel and not bottle it up. There are times when I want to listen to a happy song and times I need a sad one.

One way I've found to get through "rough" days is to sit at my piano and play something like I'm feeling. If I'm angry, I play something I can really pound out. If I need to mellow out, that's what I play.

This helps me get through the feelings and move on.

Thank you for your creativity!

I’ve always hidden my depressive side and it made me feel real lonely. I love how you use music to both express and experience your emotions 🥰

Very much reminded me of a scene of a Claressa Shields documentary when they showed her meeting with some advertising people, explaining their reservations about using her endorsement.

They said something like, do you think you could be a little…y’know, less aggressive? Be happy, sweet, approachable?

And she said, “….I’m a boxer?????”

A gold medal winning one, no less.

So. Do whatever the fuck you want, live your truth, and the people who are uncomfortable with that can choke.

I looooooove this! Thank you so much for sharing that 🤩

I love sad songs and songs in minor key (& I’m a sucker for a dorian mode). You be you, Madelleine. We are here for it. I don’t find your songs depressing, they are richly bittersweet. Susan Cain wrote a whole best selling book about bittersweet which started with her being drawn to sad songs.

A lot of my songs are in Dorian, it’s my favourite mode. It has that bittersweet quality. I neeed to read that book you mentioned! Thank you Michelle ❤️🌸🥰

"turn something dark into something beautiful" — that perfectly describes how your music feels to me. Your music seems very authentic, and I don't know what could be more important in art, and it can inspire others (including me) to be more authentic in their art.

I’ve always loved sad songs, especially in my teens. And it was always commented on by friends.

Even though I continued on to love them, on reflection (upon you asking), it has always tainted my experience.

I went on to love happy songs too, especially dance music.

I especially love yours. They speak to me in ways of deep healing at the root. Like the tangled roots of trees. Helping them untangle.

Your listener comment reminds me of my friend who wouldn’t watch any of my early videosy. ALOT of sadness was coming up. I didn’t realise at the time that I was projecting this all over the place.

Ahem. I was also showing up without masking. Showing up as I was. (As cringeworthy as that is now, I’m proud of myself)

Then I learned that what she was seeing in me, existed in her. And it was too painful for her to face. It was being dismissed. Othered. Get that away from me sort of reaction.

So it depends what angle we all look at it from and which experience we’d prefer to be having. Me, I like being down at the roots. Untangling untangling away.

I love this, Amber! Untangling at the roots! That’s definitely where I love to be too 🥰
