Hi friend,
I almost couldn’t sing this one at the end, because I got so emotional.
At first I thought this song was just about a friendly angel (yes, I’ve realised I have a thing for angels in a non-religious way) who comes down to Earth and gives me some wisdom….
But when I sang it I was suddenly transported into the future where my mom and dad are no longer with me and I have to rely on their ghostly whispers of wisdom speaking across time to help me out. Damn!
It is something I think about a lot, but try not to — how I will make it on my own, especially living in this difficult body and being so isolated as I am.
Most days I have a very positive and optimistic mindset and within that mindset I recover and make friends and live a wonderful fulfilling life.
But sometimes little things can trigger me back into a fearful state where I am scared of being left to my own devices, not having anyone to care for me. This time, it was triggered by social services announcing that they have to revisit my care hours.
Anything to do with social services gives me PTSD symptoms. This time, I didn’t think I was too stressed out, but subconsciously I fell into a lot of anxiety and fear and apparently this song is what came from it.

I do love this song despite the sad, yet beautiful and slightly uplifting, premise. I really like the melody and the borrowed chord at the end of the chorus. That’s how I started writing the song, actually. I had found the chord progression for the part of the chorus that says “As you’re speaking to me across time…” The song is in a Cm minor scale, but the chord ends with a C major chord to give it that lift.
I’m also really surprised that I have been able to stick to this songwriting challenge for over a month now. My body has been very stable and with my ongoing vocal lessons my voice is starting to stabilise too. I really love that I am beginning to be able to sing on demand. Albeit not for long at a time.
Here are the lyrics:
There’s a sign in the forest
Don’t cross here
I wonder who lives there
Does solitude make you stronger?
Or did I waste all of my years?
My soul is cool and damp
A magic armor of sorts
But your wings they warm my heart
A memory of flickering lights
As you’re speaking to me across time
Your ancient wisdom I’ll take it for the climb
Did you know I was out there on my own
A child’s defense gone wrong
A taste of rusty metal on my tongue
I tried to just be strong
My soul is cool and damp
A magic armor of sorts
But your wings they warm my heart
A memory of flickering lights
As you’re speaking to me across time
Your ancient wisdom I’ll take it for the climb
Oh I saw you by the lake last night
A last goodbye your wings shone bright in the moonlight
Oh I heard you whispering my name last night
A last farewell I now can handle it alright
Because you used to speak to me across time
Your ancient wisdom I took it for the climb
I can’t wait to find out what next week’s song will be about, it’s always exciting.

Tell me…
What gives you anxious thoughts at the moment?
Have you ever felt you were fine, but underneath it all you weren’t?
What are your favourite lines in the song?
I’d love to know in the comments!
